Netflix released the official trailer for its upcoming series “XO, Kitty” on Tuesday.
The “To All the Boys” spin-off focuses on Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart), the younger sister of Lara Jean Song Covey (Lana Condor), and her journey from her home in Portland, Oregon, to Seoul.
At the beginning of the trailer, the 16-year-old convinces her father (John Corbett) and stepmother (Sarayu Blue) to let her attend her mother’s previous boarding school in South Korea, the Korean Independent School of Seoul. The boarding school also happens to be where Kitty’s Korean long-term, long-distance boyfriend, Dae (Minyeong Choi), studies.
Upon arriving in South Korea, however, Kitty realizes that things aren’t always what they seem — especially after she realizes that Dae has another girlfriend.
Viewers of the 10-episode series, which is set four years after “To All the Boys: Always and Forever,” will see Kitty grow into the main character of her own story.
“The drive that Kitty has as a little girl — rifling through her sister’s things and setting people up — is the same drive she has for herself in ‘XO, Kitty,’” co-showrunner Sascha Rothchild told Tudum. “She makes decisions, she goes for it. That really propels her forward in the story and in her relationships.”
In addition to Cathcart, Corbett, Blue and Choi, the upcoming series’ cast also includes Gia Kim, Sang Heon Lee, Anthony Keyvan, Peter Thurmwald, Regan Aliyah, Yunjin Kim, Michael K. Lee and Jocelyn Shelfo. As for the show’s directors, Jennifer Arnold, Jeff Chan, Pamela Romanowsky and Katina Medina Mora have helmed at least two episodes each.
“XO, Kitty,” will premiere on Netflix on May 18. Watch its official trailer below:
