Chinese netizens are looking forward to the live-action adaptation of Disney’s “Mulan” after seeing the first official teaser.

Disney is doing the right thing with its portrayal for the legend of Hua Mulan in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the hit 1998 animated film, according to Twitter user @imwonwoo1796.
The user also added that the animated movie flopped and was criticized by Chinese moviegoers for “mocking” their culture, and continued to call out some people on how they wanted a talking dragon in the live-action.

Why are people mad when Disney is actually doing a more curtural appropriate to Mulan? Yall probably don’t know the Chinese criticized the cartoon so it flopped there because of how ridiculous it was and practically mocking their culture but yall still want a talking dragon? 🙄

There was no talking dragon in the original poem of Hua Mulan and she also served in the military for 12 years while hiding the fact that she’s a woman.

It just shows how yall like to scream cultural appropriation when it fits but when Disney is actually doing the right thing yall mad cuz it didn’t fit your western version of Mulan? people in China are actually upset for their Legend being american movie with chinese decoration.

The Twitter user went on to list all the things Chinese people hated in the animated version that was removed in the live-action “Mulan,” including Mushu and the titular character’s love interest, Captain Li Shang.

in China they hate mushu, they hate how the emperor bow to mulan because it’s just ridiculous and not respecting their culture. They didn’t like the love interest because it was never in the orginal legend, they hate the songs (except reflection), the jokes, eveything.

It went on to explain that if Disney were to stick to its animated source material, then it would become the final nail in the coffin.

If Disney still followed their cartoon verion of Mulan that’s basically nail to the coffin considering rumors this movie has a budget of $300M. But I guess we don’t care how China would feel as long as the western audience is satisfied right? 🙃

Although there were minor problems in the live-action “Mulan,” Chinese netizens still love the official teaser.
According to the Twitter user, the reception on Weibo has been positive.

Good news! the Chinese citizens are actually looking forward to #Mulan when they saw the trailer. Most reception on Weibo (biggest sns platform in China) has positive reviews, there are still some problems but it’s only a minor so I really hope Disney got it right this time.
