Man Who Punched 75-Year-Old Woman Unprovoked in Queens Arrested, Charged

The NYPD arrested the 24-year-old man who punched an elderly Chinese American woman in Queens in an unprovoked attack on May 26.
The arrest: The suspect, identified as Christian Batista of Queens, was arrested on Monday morning, according to ABC New York. He has been charged with assault in the second and third degree.
What happened: Batista was seen on a surveillance camera sitting on the curb before getting up and walking towards the market, where the victim was coming from. The incident occurred near 97th Place and 57th Avenue in Corona around 2:30 p.m., according to CBSNewYork.
  • He then sucker-punched the victim, 75, in the face. The woman fell to the ground, and Batista fled the scene.
  • The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital. She suffered bruises, a fractured nose and right orbital bone, NBC New York reported.
  • Reports say there was no exchange between the victim and the suspect.
  • The NYPD told NextShark, “This has not been deemed as a bias incident.”
