A Japanese policewoman who fell in love with a yakuza member she arrested found out that starting a relationship with a gang member is a recipe for disaster.
The member of a yakuza organization, who is believed to be in his 30s, was arrested by the 23-year-old officer and her colleague at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police’s Shinjuku Precinct last November, according to NHK News Web, as translated by SoraNews24.
However, while in police custody, the policewoman and gang member formed a surprising friendship, which developed into a serious romance.
He was eventually released on bail, but that did not stop the pair from communicating with each other, and continued to keep in touch by exchanging emails and text messages.
It was later revealed that the policewoman was actually feeding the yakuza member classified information regarding an investigation into the other member of his gang, which began last December. Their relationship was eventually uncovered during an internal investigation by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police.
I thought if I gave him information, he wouldn’t tell anyone about our relationship,” she told investigators during questioning.
The policewoman received a six-month probation as part of her disciplinary action. However, it was revealed that the policewoman officially resigned from her position on March 19, the same day that the news broke out.
It is unclear if the officer and yakuza member are still dating after her resignation, or whether or not criminal charges will be filed against her.
