ABC has reportedly entered early development stages for its planned “Fresh Off The Boat” spin-off, sources close to the matter have revealed.
The “Fresh Off The Boat” spin-off will feature a new set of cast and a new family, instead of focusing on a single character much like its source material, according to unnamed sources speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’m looking for some more disruptive ideas in terms of franchises, trying to harken back to what I think were some of the great brand-defining shows of ABC, which led narratively and were braver in their construct, shows like Lost, Desperate Housewives and Scandal. And also frankly, Black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke told the news site on Monday.
Writer and producer Rachna Fruchbom, who has been with the series since season 2, is set to pen the spin-off and will executive produce the series alongside Melvin Mar.
No official word has been realeased yet on the specific details such as the logline and actors tied to the project; however, Deadline reports that the “Fresh Off The Boat” spin-off will revolve around a new immigrant family from another country.
