Flying International? Here Are the Best Times to Buy Your Plane Ticket

Looking to book a flight out of the U.S. soon? These days, it seems like everyone’s on a budget, so Kayak recently conducted a study that provides data showing the cheapest international flights out of the U.S. that were available this past year. They found that fares were cheapest to certain countries during the following times:

Africa – 33 days before departure.

Europe – 53 days before departure.

South America – 162 days before departure.

Asia – 270 days before departure.

This data provided goes against conventional thought that the earlier you book your flights, the cheaper it is. The average ticket to South America was more than 20% higher than the cheapest fare even when you booked close to a year in advance.

However, no matter where you are traveling, all flights to these continents increased significantly during the week of departure. One interesting thing to note is that no matter the time frame you buy, tickets to Europe were always cheaper.

That’s something to think about before you book your next flight. Let us know in the comments below if this chart aligns with your experiences.
