It’s no secret that countries with extensive resources are focusing their efforts to minimize pollution on the planet. However, Dubai has decided to simply eliminate the problem altogether by creating the world’s first indoor city.
“Tourism is key driver of our economy and we aim to make the UAE [the United Arab Emirates] an attractive destination all year long,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, in a statement. “This is why we will start working on providing pleasant temperature-controlled environments during the summer months.”
The 48 million square-foot enclosed city will be called The Mall of the World, it will be the first climate-controlled city-sized enclosure to allow residents to completely avoid outside conditions for weeks on end. The city will include:
An 8 million-square-foot shopping mall.
Enclosed promenades that can be opened to allow fresh air to come in during Dubai’s winter months, which average 73 degrees.
The largest indoor family theme park in the world.
A tram network connecting all parts of a mall.
A broadway-style cultural district.
A dedicated theater district modeled after New York City’s Broadway and London’s West End.
Once finished, they expect 180 million annual visitors to the city.
Many people might not know this, but despite our large and loyal following which we are immensely grateful for, NextShark is still a small bootstrapped startup that runs on no outside funding or loans.
Everything you see today is built on the backs of warriors who have sacrificed opportunities to help give Asians all over the world a bigger voice.
However, we still face many trials and tribulations in our industry, from figuring out the most sustainable business model for independent media companies to facing the current COVID-19 pandemic decimating advertising revenues across the board.
We hope you consider making a contribution so we can continue to provide you with quality content that informs, educates and inspires the Asian community.
Even a $1 contribution goes a long way. Thank you for everyone’s support. We love you all and can’t appreciate you guys enough.
