Dash-cam Captures Ride-Sharing Driver Falling Asleep at the Wheel, Waking Up to Violent Crash

This is the moment when a sleepy ride-hailing driver in southeastern China returned to his senses after crashing his car against a parked vehicle on an expressway.

The accident, caught on both dashboard and surveillance cameras, occurred along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway around 8:26 a.m. on Jan. 17, according to Shenzhen News.

The dash-cam footage, which has just started going viral, shows the ride-hailing driver struggling to keep his eyes open while transporting a passenger.

Seconds into the video, the passenger is heard screaming in terror as the driver hits the brakes.

Unfortunately, it was too late — the car crashed against a construction vehicle parked along a lane, Sohu noted.

The dash-cam screen is seen going on all directions during the impact.

Shenzhen traffic police immediately rushed to the scene. As of 10:20 a.m., the accident had been disposed off the road.

Four individuals were reportedly injured, including the driver, who sustained wounds on his face.

Initial investigations confirmed that the driver was “fatigue driving.”

It is unclear whether the passenger suffered any injuries and how the driver will be dealt with under applicable traffic law.
