Crystal Kung Minkoff shared her battle with bulimia in an episode of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” on Wednesday.
The battle: In the episode, the 35-year-old mother of two told her fellow co-stars Lisa Rinna, Dorit Kemsley, Sutton Stracke, Kathy Hilton and Kyle Richards how her struggle with bulimia began at 11 years old, according to People.
  • Kung Minkoff confessed she picked “up tools” about bulimia after watching a video about eating disorders in school, saying that it was clear the video had a “negative message.”
  • She explained that her bulimia stemmed in part from being an Asian American student in a school full of white children. Kung Minkoff said she had always “felt like the chubby one” and wanted to be “blonde, blue-eyed and skinny” and “American” which meant “white” to her as a child.
  • Her bulimia is now “under control,” and she is no longer “suffering on the daily,” Kung Minkoff said.
  • Kung Minkoff explained to her husband that she tries to be aware of the way she talks about her body in front of their children, especially their daughter Zoe.
  • “She’ll say to me, ‘Mommy, your legs are skinny.’ And I’ll say, ‘Mommy works out, they’re healthy,'” Kung Minkoff said. “It’s so much work to, like, get her to not use those terms.”
