Racist Blogger Who Called Asians ‘Ching Chongs’ Forced to Quit Social Media After Backlash

The Swiss beauty blogger who referred to East Asians in racial slurs has explained that it was all just a “joke” before shutting down all her social media accounts.

Chanel Brusco, who goes by the online moniker Cocomadkilla, was recently in hot water for calling East Asians “Ching Chongs” in a blog post that reviewed products from Korean cosmetic brand Glowrious.

She also called the Glowrious representative who sent her the products “Ching Wong Yung.”

In response to the backlash, Brusco wrote a public apology soon, explaining that it was merely a “joke” and that she is certainly not racist (via Twitter user @ESEAsianBeauty):

“Recently things have been going crazy over a joke I made. A joke without realising it would have such an impact and offend so many people. I would like to state that I never meant to offend anyone. I’m sorry if that was the case.

“I am of Italian descent and continuously make jokes about myself too. Those who know me know that my humour comes with an edge but I am certainly not a racist.

“I have many friends of different origin and culture and appreciate these people very much. Acceptance and individuality is important and I am against any kind of racism. I hope we can all move on.”

Brusco’s familiar technique of apology, however, did not satisfy everyone. Twitter users immediately lambasted the part-time model:

As of this writing, Brusco appears to have deactivated her beauty blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts.
