One of Japan’s Most-Anticipated Anime Films Looks Unlike Anything You’ve Seen Before

A highly anticipated anime film,
The new movie comes from anime house Studio 4°C, which adapted it from the manga of the same title that ran from 2006 to 2011.
The trailer released on Monday doubles as a music video as it features the film’s theme song, “Umi no Yurei” (“Ghosts of the Sea”), from singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu, who first became known for composing Vocaloid music.
Judging by its trailer, “Children of the Sea” appears to be something anime fans have never seen before, featuring detailed scenes and impressive color work that effectively communicate the emotion of every scene.
The film is directed by Ayumu Watanabe, whose diverse resume includes “Mysterious Girlfriend X” and “Ace Attorney.”
Meanwhile, the rest of the movie’s soundtrack comes from Joe Hisaishi, who composed the vast majority of Studio Ghibli’s anime, including “My Neighbor Totoro,” “Princess Mononoke,” and “Spirited Away.”
According to SoraNews24, “Children of the Sea” follows a high school girl named Ruka, who finds herself spending her summer days at the aquarium where her father works.
There, she meets a pair of brothers named Umi and Sora, whom her father claims to be “raised by dugongs.”
With Watanabe and Hisaishi’s combined talents, “Children of the Sea” looks to be a very promising anime film for summer. It opens in Japanese theaters on June 7.
