Chinese celebrity Zhou Libo has been charged in New York  in the United States.
Libo, a popular stand-up comedian, television actor and host in China, is facing the criminal charges at a Long Island court in New York, Fox 5 reports.
In his appearance at a courtroom in Nassau County on Friday, the 49-year-old superstar was observed to be quite unperturbed about the whole thing and even joked with the Chinese reporters who covered it.
He even joined the reporters in recording his attorney’s briefing on video. The case was adjourned until June 9.
Zhou was arrested back on January 19 as he was driving along Lattingtown, in the eastern part of New York City. He has pleaded not guilty to charges.
It was not revealed why Zhou, who is believed to be living in Alpine, New Jersey, was driving along the exclusive community near Long Island Sound after midnight.
Police reportedly stopped Zhou’s car, a black Mercedes-Benz, because “it was being driven erratically and the operator was using a cellphone.”
According to the court documents, the officers noticed a shoulder holster in the back seat of the vehicle. A Colt Mustang 0.38 caliber pistol and two bags of crack cocaine would later be discovered inside a backpack. A passenger who was with him at the time was also arrested.
“He’s taking the charges seriously,” his lawyer, Attorney Hugh Mo, was quoted as saying. “He does have confidence in the judicial system; he does have confidence in his lawyer; he does have confidence in the fact that hopefully at the end of the day we’re going to come out and hopefully resolve this to his satisfaction.”
