Tesla has big incentive to fulfill its quest to put self-driving cars on the road within the next few years.
During a recent Top 10 Tech Trends dinner hosted by the Churchill Club, Tesla board member Steve Jurvetson revealed that if Tesla is able to produce 500,000 fully autonomous cars by 2020, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said his company would purchase every single one of them, according to Green Car Reports.
Jurvetson claimed that self-driving cars would lead to a decrease in the amount of taxis in New York City and allow individuals to get a ride within 30 seconds of hailing one.
Tesla has been testing and developing its autopilot car technology since last fall, but has yet to make it available for sale to the public.
Tesla founder Elon Musk has said that his company wants to improve the technology to a point where cars can be summoned to where their owners are. James Bond, anyone?
