I didn’t think the internet can get any creepier, but it never fails to disappoint me.
Streak, a SF-based startup has developed a free Google Chrome browser extension that allows senders to be notified when their emails are opened. If that’s not disturbing enough for you yet, Streak will also tell you where that email was open. Now, not only will people know that you’re ignoring them, but also where you are located.
Here’s how it works, an eye icon will show up when you view a sent email using Streak. Once the recipient opens the email, the eye icon will turn green, which signifies that your email has been read.
By the way, here’s the kicker. The recipient doesn’t need to have Streak installed for the sender to be notified that the email they sent was opened.
According to Mashable, Streak is not the first company to offer this kind of service. Bananatag does the same thing, but requires a monthly fee after sending more than 5 emails and doesn’t show the location of the recipient.
