While the Philippines has its own version of Chloë Grace Moretz, Malaysia also has a star doppelgänger who may soon be a celebrity herself.
Discovered by netizens back in August last year, Phantegrow Louiselle Leo Estrop, nicknamed Phan, became an overnight sensation due to her uncanny resemblance to Selena Gomez
After her images went viral, the Sabah-based part-Kadazandusun, part-Dutch youngster has so far accumulated almost 35,000 followers on Instagram.
Her instant popularity has also attracted modeling deals and even landing herself a role in a major local film. Phan is currently busy shooting for her scenes in the upcoming film, “Sumpahan Kinabalu”.
In an Instagram post, she shared her experience during filming:
“Acting was never easy from the beginning, I’ve been up and down so many times till I lost count of it, there’s just so many mix emotions happen on my journey throughout the shooting for this film.
“I just have to try my best and never give up, because in my mindset I’m doing this for Sabah.”
While she admits that being part of a movie has opened a big opportunity for her, she still chooses to keep her focus on finishing her studies. In an interview with the New Straits Times, Phan said that she prefers to keep her feet on the ground despite the massive attention she’s getting now.
“I would be lying if I said that being likened to Selena does not make me happy or proud. I consider it an honor, but I do not want to let that get to my head,” Phan was quoted as saying.
“At the end of the day, I am still me, not Selena.”
