Meet the 80-Year-Old Who’s ‘China’s Hottest Grandpa’

A Chinese grandfather’s has defied fashion stereotypes and earned worldwide admiration with his swag and charisma as a model.

Wang Deshun, an 80-year-old actor and artist from China, has stayed fit all his life, slowed down his aging process and has now turned to modeling at an age that many consider to be a good time to retire.

Born in Shenyang, China in 1936, Deshun grew up with eight siblings, a father who was a cook and a stay-at-home mother. At 14 years old, he started working as a streetcar conductor. Now dubbed as “China’s hottest grandpa,” Deshun first entered the national spotlight when he made his debut at a runway show at China Fashion Week last year.

“Nature determines age, but you determine your state of mind,” Wang Deshun told the New York Times, revealing that he maintains his toned physique by working out three hours per day.

He has earned the admiration of numerous fans both locally and internationally, with many commending not only his looks but also his unique attitude in life.

“Morning is my learning time,” he said. “I read books and news. From 3 to 6 p.m. is my exercise time, in a gym near my home.”

He also shared that he taught modeling and organized fashion shows when he was much younger. When he tried it himself only last year, he instantly became a national fashion icon.

In the video “Be the fiercest,” Deshun further explained his secret. The short but insightful clip has been viewed more than half a million times since it was uploaded on YouTube last August.
