Last week, Los Angeles hosted the first ever DiscoverMe Forum, an invite-only event that gathered leaders in technology, media, and finance to discuss how the impact of crowdfunding, crowdsourcing, and new media has transformed the business landscape.

Mayor Eric Garcetti kicked off the event in an opening dinner for select VIP guests with a truly inspirational speech. The mayor pointed out the fast growing startup industry in Los Angeles, appealing to the audience that if you’re an entrepreneur, Los Angeles is the city with the platform to test their latest innovations. After all, Los Angeles is the third most friendly startup city in the world with over $1 billion raised by startups just last year.

“A new digital startup is starting every 40 hours,” Garcetti said. “This is a critical moment for the startup industry. L.A. has always been a great place to tell a story. If I had to sum it up, L.A. is where creativity lives.”
