Young moms in Indonesia have began a new “challenge” on social media that may soon catch on to the rest of the world.
Called the #MahmudChallenge, the trend that began last month has young mothers posting two photos of themselves: one all dolled and dressed up, versus another one carrying their babies while wearing loose, everyday clothes known in the region as “dasters.” The craze has gone viral in local social media, with stay-at-home moms across Indonesia proving that they can still be fashionable even with their parental responsibilities.
“Mahmud,” which is taken from the Indonesian colloquial term and portmanteau of the words “mamah” (mother) and “muda” (young), is commonly used to describe mothers who are attractive. According to Coconuts Jakarta, the word is closest to the term “MILF” when used in everyday conversations.
Posts intended for the #MahmudChallenge include the caption, “Jangan remehin emak-emak berdaster, karena kalo mereka dandan kelar idup lo,” or, “Don’t underestimate daster-wearing mothers, because once they put on make up, your life is over.”

These Indonesian moms are simply saying that they can always transform into a gorgeous hottie in an instant. While it is certainly cool to see the transformations shown by the #MahmudChallenge, we believe that makeup or no makeup, mothers of all shapes and sizes are all beautiful.
