A 24-year-old U.S. citizen was arrested for trying to smuggle four Chinese immigrants that were crammed inside his car from Mexico into the U.S.
The white 2014 Chrysler was stopped at the inspection booth when it was trying to cross the San Ysidro border, according to Fox News. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection grew suspicious after their canine unit led them to the vehicle.
When they inspected and opened the trunk of the car, officers were surprised to find four Chinese immigrants, three women and one man, stuffed in the small compartment. They did not have legal documentation to go to America.
The consequence falls to the driver of the vehicle whose name was not released. Officers seized his car and the man now faces federal immigration smuggling charges, according to New York Daily News.
“Concealing persons in vehicles is dangerous and could have severe consequences,” Director of Field Operations for CBP in San Diego Pete Flores said.
Meanwhile, the four Chinese were put on immigration hold to process their removal from the U.S.
Sneaking in four people in your trunk is probably not the smartest move, especially when you know you there’s an inspection booth waiting at the border.
