A Chinese man in Hunan narrowly escaped death after he was pushed onto the train train tracks as revenge for repeatedly spitting in public.
On Sunday afternoon, a 48-year-old man named Tan had allegedly been spitting on the ground throughout the train station until he reached the platform. Another man, a 34-year-old named Li, had been following and watching Tan spitting throughout the station.
Disgusted and offended, Li decided to take matters into his own hands to punish Tan by pushing him off the meter-high platform and onto the tracks in the path of an arriving train, according to Rednet.
Tan narrowly escaped by jumping off the rails as the train approached. Police had later detained Li for causing intentional injury.
While Li’s actions are hardly excusable, Tan told reporters he did learn a valuable lesson that day:
“I know spitting is a bad habit, but I didn’t mean to offend anyone. Now I won’t ever dare to spit again.”
Note to self: public punishments in China can be extremely harsh.
