A very glamorous wedding just outside the industrial city of Fuzhou, China saw the union of a beautiful wife and a very wealthy groom. Friends and relatives who attended, however, knew who the real star of the event was — the pile of a million dollars in cold, hard cash that the groom set up on stage with them.
According to Sina (via Shanghaist), everything about the event exudes extravagance in a true “tuhao”, or classless wealthy Chinese, wedding fashion. A convoy of seven luxury cars escorted the couple to the reception area, where 50 tables were prepared for the attendees.
The couple’s business friends also came by bearing gifts of 500 yuan ($75) stuffed inside “hongbao”, or traditional Chinese red envelopes.
As the son of a rich real estate and footwear magnate in Guangzhou, the groom, identified only by his surname Chen, chose to express his undying love and commitment to his new spouse in his own special way — by giving the family of his beloved wife some cash to spend.
Of course, he could’ve written a check, or wired the money, yet probably thought it would be a romantic gesture to just pile the cash up on the stage, so he piled up 12 stacks amounting to 6 million yuan, or more than $900,000, for everyone to marvel at.
The extravagant display of the rich groom’s affection has since gone viral after photos of their wedding were posted and then widely shared and reposted on Chinese social media.
