One week after filing for bankruptcy, 50 Cent testified in a Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday morning that he is not as wealthy as he appears to be.
According to Forbes, 50 Cent’s (real name Curtis Jackson) net worth is estimated to be around $155 million. However, Jackson’s lawyer said in court that he’s actually worth $4.4 million.
Daily Mail also pointed out that the rapper appeared in court not wearing his usual bling. Instead of his flashy watch, he was wearing a simple rubber one.
He also didn’t wear his usual diamond earrings.
Coincidentally, Jackson was forced to pay $5 million last week to Lastonia Leviston, a woman who sued him for publishing her private sex tape on the internet without her consent. Jackson filed for bankruptcy shortly after.
After taking the witness stand, Jackson claimed that all the expensive cars and jewelry he supposedly owns, and his $1.6 million bet on the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight, was all fake.
He also went on to say that all the expensive things he’s posted on Instagram is borrowed. “I take the jewelry and the cars back to the stores,” he said, according to the New York Daily News.
The rapper also claims that he made 10 cents a record from selling 30 million records worldwide, $100,000 each from his movie roles in “Spy” and “Southpaw,” and $150,000 from his Starz hit series “Power.”
Of course, all this could simply be an act so he can avoid paying Leviston. In an interview on TBS’ “Conan,” he said:
“I need protection. You get a bull’s-eye painted on your back when you’re successful, and it’s public. You become the ideal person for lawsuits.”
