Last night, 50 Cent responded to the recent negative public criticism of his bankruptcy filing with a hilarious
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy yesterday morning despite being lauded for his business prestige earlier this year.
In May, Forbes ranked Jackson fourth on their wealthiest hip-hop artists list and estimated his net worth to be $155 million.
Filing for bankruptcy a mere two months after being acclaimed by the New York Times and Forbes as one of the smartest business minds in the hip-hop industry came as a shock to everyone.
However, after Jackson’s Instagram post last night it seems like there may be a little more to the story than “50 Cent is all of a sudden broke.” He captioned:
“Times are hard out here LMAO.”
Jackson recently lost a lawsuit against Lastonia Leviston, who sued him for $5 million for posting a sex tape online without her permission.
Jackson recently explained to E! News that his decision to file for bankruptcy is purely a smart business decision:
“When you’re successful and stuff, you become a target. I don’t wanna be a bullseye. I don’t want anybody to pick me as the guy that they just come to with astronomical claims and go through all that.
“I’m taking precautions that any good businessperson would take in this situation.”
Perhaps Jackson would rather commit social suicide then pay $5 million to a woman who got the best of him in court. Either way, Jackson’s Instagram response signifies that the financial controversy does not seem to be bothering him at all.
